Volunteers Needed

Spring is on the way, and it’s Greenbelt trash cleanup time. We’re seeking volunteers to help clean up Industrial Road by Wildwood County Park and from Derry Street to the PennDOT License Center by the Susquehanna River.

Industrial Road Cleanup

Saturday, March 11 – Many thanks to the over 80 volunteers who came out on a blustery March day to once again tackle the trash on Industrial Road.  Over 105 bags of trash were collected by Harrisburg City’s Public Works staff.  Special thanks to Dauphin County Parks and Recreation for organizing the annual cleanup and volunteers from many organizations, including the Capital Area Greenbelt Association,  Harrisburg Bicycle Club, and Milton Hershey School.

More March  “clean up” the Greenbelt’s path and woods events are planned.  See below for upcoming cleanup events.

Cameron Parkway Cleanup

Friday, March 24, from 10 am to 1 pm, we will clean up various locations from South Harrisburg to Reservoir Park.  We have three meeting locations; sign up for the one that works best for you.  Wear long pants and long sleeves and bring work gloves.

Volunteers will sign the required waiver when they register.

Cameron Parkway Mountain Bike Trails Cleanup

Saturday, March 25, from 9 am to 1 pm

The Susquehanna Area Mountain Bike Association (SAMBA) and the Capital Area Greenbelt Association (CAGA) are launching a community-wide effort to re-naturalize a segment of the Greenbelt corridor adjacent to the 13th Street and Cloverly Terrace along the hillside of the Cameron Parkway in Harrisburg and we need your help. The site has lots of trash and debris from decades of illegal dumping. A significant amount of trash has made its way down the hillside, to the mountain biking trails, and into Spring Creek.

We are looking for hearty volunteers willing to climb the hillside to assist with this event.  We have scheduled four hours for this first cleanup.  If you only have two hours to give, you are still welcome but please arrive at 9 am.
