Exploring the Capital Area Greenbelt is one of the best ways to experience Harrisburg and connect with City Life, cycling culture, and our green spaces. However, to continue improving the trail and support responsible Trail Stewardship, we have an important update to share!
Stormwater Improvement Project Temporarily Closes Greenbelt Segment
Starting today, a portion of the Greenbelt along the north side of the Farm Show Complex will be closed to allow for critical stormwater infrastructure improvements. Work is expected to continue until May 28, with the trail reopening just in time for the Tour de Belt celebration on Sunday, June 1

The yellow line is the natural path of the Greenbelt. The red line is the temporary reroute.
⭐ Why the Trail is Closed
The City of Harrisburg and our partners are committed to maintaining and enhancing the Greenbelt for generations to come. As part of these efforts, we are upgrading storm detention basins near the Farm Show Complex. These improvements will help manage rainwater more effectively and protect the trail and surrounding areas.
We understand closures are inconvenient, but these upgrades are vital for the long-term health and sustainability of the Greenbelt.
2-3 signs identify the temporary routes. The route through the lot is a designated travel lane, so do not cross any parking spaces. See the images below.
Please be mindful, the upper corner of the lot will be in use for the farmers market on Tuesdays and Fridays. There will be traffic in the lot (and they will be taking the barrier out of the Cameron ramp so that will be in use too).

⭐ What Trail Users Need to Know
Closure Dates: April 28 – May 28
Location: Greenbelt trail along the north side of the Farm Show Complex (see detour map)
Detour: A clearly marked detour will route trail users through the Farm Show Parking area
Please follow all posted signs and detour markers. Your safety, and the safety of the workers, is our top priority.
⭐ Alternative Options and Safety Reminders
Stay Alert: Look for and respect all detour signage.
Share the Path: Watch for other cyclists and pedestrians along the temporary route.
Be Patient: Work zones can change daily. Allow a little extra time for your cycling or walking plans.
