Walking With a Doc on Prostate Health

The Walk with a Doc program successfully conducted a prostate health awareness initiative on Wednesday, June 17 while walking through the Greenbelt’s Five Senses Gardens and the Martin Luther King Memorial on the Cameron Parkway.
Urologist Jay Raman of Penn State Health led 29 adults, two children, and one dog through an informative walking session that addressed critical prostate health concerns while promoting community wellness and outdoor recreation.
Walks are organized by the Capital Area Greenbelt Association, Dauphin County Parks and Recreation, Penn State Health, and Susquehanna Township Parks and Recreation. Doctor Raman is a professor and chair of the Department of Urology at Penn State Health. He provided comprehensive prostate health education throughout the walk, covering risk factors, prevention strategies, early detection, treatment options, lifestyle modifications, and answered questions.
CAGA’s Diane Dankman Riley welcomed the group and gave an overview of the Greenbelt, a brief history of the Five Senses Gardens and the Martin Luther King Memorial. Gail Snyder of Penn State Health helped with the logistics of registering walkers, introducing Doctor Raman, and taking wonderful photographs. Also, Penn State Health’s Jen Dahlloff helped with registrants, brought goodie bags for all participants, and took photos.
This was a very successful event with a record number of participants. Doctor Raman expressed a desire to join us again and we are looking to that in 2027.
The next Walk With a Doc is Wednesday, July 15, at 6:00 PM for 60 mins at Front and Tuscarora Streets in Shipoke. An ophthalmologist from Premiere Eye Care will speak about Eye and Vision Health.
