2025 by the Numbers: What Volunteers Made Possible on the Greenbelt

Every mile of trail, every planted tree, every cleaner creek, and every community event has one thing in common—people who care enough to show up.

The Capital Area Greenbelt Association (CAGA) is powered entirely by volunteers. Throughout 2025, neighbors, cyclists, walkers, businesses, and community partners came together to protect, improve, and celebrate one of Central Pennsylvania’s greatest outdoor treasures.

Here’s what that teamwork accomplished in just one year:

  • 375 volunteers dedicated their time to caring for the Greenbelt.

  • Together they contributed 4,836 hours of volunteer service.

  • Volunteers collected 9,000 pounds of trash, helping keep trails and waterways clean.

  • More than 15,000 native trees and shrubs were planted along the Paxtang Parkway.

  • Volunteers also planted 160 trees throughout the Greenbelt corridor.

  • CAGA partnered with 28 businesses and organizations to strengthen community stewardship.

  • Volunteers restored 4.62 acres of the Paxtang Parkway Creek.

  • The annual Tour de Belt raised more than $42,000 to support CAGA’s mission.

  • CAGA secured $117,500 in county and local funding to reconnect the South Harrisburg Trail.

  • Altogether, the value of volunteer service is estimated at $174,700.

These numbers represent far more than statistics. They represent cleaner waterways, healthier habitats, safer trails, stronger communities, and thousands of people enjoying the outdoors.

Every volunteer project, Tour de Belt rider, membership renewal, donation, and community partnership helps make these accomplishments possible.
